Quinone polymers built up from recurring units of the formula I <IMAGE> where A is a divalent radical of the structure <IMAGE> R<1> and R<2> are a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl radical having 1-6 carbon atoms, and R<3> and R<4> are a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical having 1-4 carbon atoms, a carboxyl radical, or a cycloaliphatic or aromatic radical having up to 10 carbon atoms.
