A method for extraction of a point target from a video signal, that is to say for detection of a target object which is approximately in the form of a point and for differentiating between this target object and clutter in the form of large areas, preferably clouds. The target object and the clutter are recorded by an optronic sensor (electro-optical sensor) and are contained in the video signal provided by the sensor, in the form of image signals.
