PURPOSE:To prevent an edge component from being distorted by using data after a central value is substituted on the data in which the central value is already substituted as adjacent picture element data of the base of the substitution of the central value in smoothing of picture data. CONSTITUTION:When smoothing is executed by using the data of the two adjacent picture elements, picture elements Pa, Pb, Pc, Pd arranged in one- dimensional direction are considered and the picture data (a), (b), (c), (d) respectively take values as shown in the drawing. In this case, the picture data (b) is substituted by bo=c and the picture data (c) is smoothed based on the bo and the picture data (d), so that the value (c) of original picture data goes to smoothing data Co. Accordingly, the picture data (b) is smoothed, however, the inversion phenomenon from b>>c to bo<<co is not produced. Thereby, the distortion in the edge component can be prevented. |
