PURPOSE:To shorten the recognition processing time by changing a comparison sequence by a sequence conversion table with regard to a number sequence address generated by a sequence address generating circuit, and executing a decision of matching by comparing an input pattern and a standard pattern. CONSTITUTION:An address of a number sequence, generated by a sequence address generating circuit 1 is changed as to its sequence by a sequence conversion table 7, and outputted to an input pattern memory 2 and a standard pattern memory 3. Data which has been stored in the memory 2 is read out, the data are compared with the data which has been stored in an address of a standard pattern designated by a pattern number of the memory 3, and a degree of matching is calculated as a matching distance by a distance calculating circuit 4. A comparing and deciding circuit 5 compares a threshold value which has been stored in a threshold value setting circuit 6, with the matching distance, and decides matching of the pattern. In this way, by executing a decision without waiting for a result of comparison of all comparing points, the recognition processing time can be shortened.
