PURPOSE:To prevent a segmenting error by calculating a character input frame by using the attribute information of a character size set in advance, and segmenting a character. CONSTITUTION:The stroke of a character inputted from a tablet 1 is brought to coordinate input processing, and based on coordinate information, a small square number arithmetic processing part 5 calculates a small square number. The same character input frame decision processing part 6 decides whether the stroke is the same character input frame or not, by the small square number of the processing part 5 and the character size attribute of a character size attribute file 8, and when it is in the frame, it is accumulated in a stroke file 7, and when it is outside the frame, it is sent to a character recognition processing part 9, and a character recognition is executed by referring to a recognition dictionary file 10. Also, it is displayed on a liquid crystal display 3 by a display processing part 11. In this way, by segmenting a character, based on the attribute information of a character size, a segmenting error can be prevented.
