Hand-operated crank drive for the adjustable cover of a vehicle roof with a rotatable crank which can be folded in a predetermined rotational position into a recessed niche and is in driving connection, via an idling device, with a driving pinion for the adjustment mechanism of the cover. The idling device has a stop, connected to the driving pinion, and a driving dog, which is connected to the crank, can be coupled to the stop for rotation and when the direction of rotation of the crank is changed can execute a lost motion of more than 180@. The mutual coupling of driving dog and stop takes place depending on the direction of rotation of the crank via in each case one of the two ends, protruding into the movement path of the driving dog and stop, of a torsion spring, which is surrounded by a cylindrical housing, at the same time tensioning the torsion spring, whereas in the case of a rotational movement initiated by the driving pinion, the stop bears in a manner which is virtually free of play against in each case one of the ends of the torsion spring, in a direction which causes the torsion spring to press against the inner wall of the housing. <IMAGE>
