<p>The propelling unit consists of a two-stroke reciprocating piston engine (1), which is coupled to the ship's propeller (4) and operates on the diesel principle. The electrical generator (13) obtains its input drive power from the reciprocating piston engine (1), the generator being driven by a power gas turbine (7) via a reduction gear (12). A hydrostatic transmission, consisting of a pump (17) and motor (18) and connected between the internal-combustion engine (1) and the generator (13), is used mainly for regulating the frequency of the generator.
