A process and an apparatus for depositing electrolytic coatings on workpieces in an electrolytic bath are described. In the process, the workpieces are fed to a supporting device, their temperature is adapted to the temperature of the electrolytic bath, they are dipped into the electrolytic bath with a supporting device and moved in this bath on a looped path compelled by the supporting device. After deposition of the coating and emerging from the electrolytic bath, the workpieces are automatically subjected to an aftertreatment in which they are continuously rinsed with the required liquids, and subsequently fed to a drying apparatus. An apparatus, in particular for carrying out the process, has a tank filled with an electrolytic bath, a preferably substantially circular workpiece-supporting device with radially arranged holding devices, a preferably intermittently driven wheel which is operatively connected to the supporting device, a part for automatic removal of the workpieces from the holding devices, as well as a rinsing drum in which the workpieces continuously come into contact with the rinsing liquids required for the aftertreatment. The cathode connection can be obtained internally via the bearing arrangement and the fixture of the supporting device or externally via a special flexible metal cable.
