Self-propelled ice preparation machines are equipped with a planing slide, in which a cutter for planing off the ice chips is arranged. The outer edge of an ice rink is not covered by this cutter so that finishing by means of a hand implement is necessary. In the ice preparation machine according to the invention, an edge-surface smoothing arrangement 4, which is pivotable about a horizontal and a vertical shaft 3, 8 and which projects in relation to the associated end surfaces of the planing slide 1, is fastened on the planing slide. The edge-surface smoothing arrangement 4 can be height-adjusted by means of an adjusting spindle 7. An adjusting arrangement 18 is also provided, in order to align the smoothing tools 17 of the edge-surface smoothing arrangement 4 with the cutter of the planing slide 1. In operation, the edge-surface smoothing arrangement 4 is pressed against the edging delimiting the ice surface by an energy storage mechanism. In order that the edge-surface smoothing arrangement 4 remains in the same position on transfer from the operating position into the rest position and vice versa, the edge-surface smoothing arrangement is fastened on a pivoting device 2 designed as a parallel guide. The parallel guide consists essentially of a toothed-belt drive 15, 16, the toothed-belt pulley 15 of which is mounted in a rotationally fixed manner onto the respective shaft 3, 12. <IMAGE>
