<p>A flavone carboxylic acid derivative is described represented by the formula (III)

wherein R1 and R2, which may be the same or different, each represents hydrogen, lower-alkyl especially having C3 to c4, at least one of R1 and R2 being other than hydrogen, and wherein both neighboring R1 and R2 may be combined together optionally with an oxygen, nitrogen, or sulfur atom to form a 5-6 membered cycloalkyl or heterocycle, which is preferably substituted with lower-alkyl(s), R3 represents hydrogen or lower alkyl and R4 represents hydrogen or hydroxyl, as well as intermediates represented by formula (IV):
