An output coupling bush 50 for insertion in a fluid line in an ultrasonically powered instrument such as a surgical instrument, which is irrigated with irrigating fluid at the operation site, comprises a tubular, thin- walled main part 52, which defines separate openings 62, and a collar element 56, for retaining the output coupling bush in a tapered cap 27 for the instrument. Insertion of the output coupling bush 50 in the irrigation fluid line between a part of an ultrasonically powered instrument and the inside of the tapered cap 27, which delimits the fluid line, impedes the transmission of ultrasonic energy through the fluid medium in the line and thus reduces the harmful cavitation and bubble formation at the operation site. <IMAGE>
