PURPOSE:To improve the separation performance of sheet by arranging the feeding means and the separating means alternately so as to bend the sheet in lateral direction and varying the overlapping amount of both means as the carriage of sheet promotes. CONSTITUTION:A separation feeding section 9 for feeding the document set on a document tray while separating sheet by sheet has a roller 19 for feeding a document set at a paper feed port 17. Furthermore, means 23 for carrying the document being fed through said roller 19 and a separation means 25 facing against said means 23 are provided. Here, the feeding means 23 and the separation means 23 are constructed by entraining belts 59, 71 respectively about the pulleys 53, 57 and 65, 69 where the belts 59, 71 are disposed to be positioned alternately in the perpendicular direction against the paper feeding direction. The overlapping amount of the belts 59, 71 is increased as the oval pulley 53 rotates or the separation carriage of document promotes.
