NEW MATERIAL:A glycerol derivative of formula I (R1 is 8-18C straight- or branched-chain alkyl; R2 is H, 1-4C alkyl, acyl; n is 3-5). EXAMPLE:N-(2-Hydroxy-3-dodecyloxypropyl)-epsilon-caprolactam. USE:A compound manifesting action to promote the absorption of medicinal component into living bodies. It has excellent permeability through biomembranes, but shows reduced irritation to skins. PREPARATION:For example, a glycidyl ether of formula II is allowed to react with a lactam of formula III to give a compound of formula Ia. Then, the product is allowed to react with an alkylating or acylating agent to give a compound of formula Ia.
