PURPOSE:To dry coal, by setting an auxiliary heat exchanger between a heat exchanger for recovering sensible heat of waste gas of flue and a coal dryer, cooling and circulating a heating medium discharged from the coal dryer, reducing heat exchange capacity of the coal dryer and increasing recovery quantity of heat. CONSTITUTION:In drying coal by circulating a heating medium between a heat exchanger for recovering sensible heat of waste gas of flue and a coal dryer and by using waste heat of coke oven, a middle heat exchanger 4 for utilizing low-temperature heat is set between a coal dryer 1 and a flue heat exchanger 2. A heating medium b discharged from the coal dryer 1 is subjected to heat exchange with a liquid e by the middle heat exchanger 4, cooled, then subjected to heat exchange with a waste gas d of flue of the coke oven by the flue heat exchanger 2 to raise the temperature of the heating medium b, the temperature of the heating medium is further raised by a heating medium heater 3 and the medium is circulated to the coal dryer 1 to dry coal.
