PURPOSE:To prevent falling of a coil and to perform the inserting work efficiently by detecting the interference between the inner circumferential face of the coil and a mandrel then adjusting the vertical position such that said interference is eliminated thereafter inserting the mandrel again. CONSTITUTION:When the insertion of a coil (c) is started under the condition where the vertical centering is finished and the strip endface is hung down in the inner face of the coil (c), the coil (c) contacts against an attachment A and more than three pressure sensors S arranged through a spring SP, and a lead wire L detects the interference with the coil (c). The signal detected through the pressure sensor S is fed through a rotary transformer PT to a control circuit CTL2 which provides a signal for stopping a coil truck TC to a solenoid SV1 for traveling. Then the control circuit CTL2 decides whether any pressure sensor S is opened by means of a mandrel phase sensor MS and lowers a truck receiving table HL such that said pressure sensor S is closed.
