PURPOSE:To reduce the increase of the transmission loss of the titled fiber in >=1mum wavelength by forming the titled fiber by coating a core made of a pure silica glass with a polyimide resin. CONSTITUTION:The polyimide coated fiber having the core diameter of 9mum and the clad diameter of 125mum is formed by wire drawing a single mode fiber preform for 1.3mum wavelength which is composed of the core made of the pure silica glass and the clad made of a fluorine contg. quartz glass. The prescribed polyimido coated fiber is reduced the increase of the transmission loss at the wavelength of >=1mum, even if in case of irradiating gamma-ray to the titled fiber, and the radiation resistant property of the titled fiber is improved at >=1mum the wavelength.
