PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of detecting air-fuel ratio by comparing the actual output value of an O2 sensor when plural operating parameters agreed with the standard values, with a standard output value and correcting the output characteristic of said O2 sensor. CONSTITUTION:The detected values of a limiting current method O2 sensor 1 as well as of an intake air absolute pressure sensor 15, a water temp. sensor 16, a crank angle sensor 17, etc., are inputted into a control circuit 14, to control a solenoid valve 18 and feedback control an air-fuel ratio to a target value in accordance with an operating condition. The control circuit 14 stores the detected value of the O2 sensor 1 when intake air absolute pressure, water temp., and engine speed become standard values, and compares the detected value with a standard output value corresponding to its standard value, and corrects the output characteristic of the O2 sensor.
