PURPOSE:To prevent unnecessary paper discharge by providing a marker which stores whether printing data is available at a control part which controls printing or paper feed, thereby checking the marker when a paper feed control command has been received and inhibiting paper feed when printing data is not available. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 2 which controls the printing mechanism 4 of a printer, checks the contents of data 6 read from a register 1, and sets a marker 3 at a signal 7 making an output of the marker 3 a true value. In addition, at the same time, the control circuit actuates the printing mechanism 4 with a printing command signal 10 to perform prearranged printing. Further, the control circuits checks the value of a signal 9, and if the above-mentioned printing data 6 is a paper signal such as FF code. If this signal 9 is a true value, the printing mechanism 4 is actuated at a paper feed signal 11 to feed the paper. At that time, if the signal 9 is a false value, the control circuit inhibits the signal 11, thus disabling paper feed.
