PURPOSE:To obtain the captioned rocker arm which possesses the improved breakage toughness and a high abrasion resistance by making a cam pad which is installed at the part where the rocker arm slides in contact with a cam shaft from beta-sialon ceramic. CONSTITUTION:A pad is installed at the part where a rocker arm slides in contact with a camshaft, and a member made of the material different from that of the rocker arm is installed. beta-sialon ceramic is used as the material for the cam pad. Said material is made by adding 4.5-5.5wt. part Al2O3 into 100wt. part mixed powder consisting of 90wt. part Si3N4, 3wt. part poly type AIN (21R), and 7wt. part Y2O3, and mixing them in a ball mill, using alcohol as medium. After the mixed powder is dried, a caking agent is added, and the mixture is pelletized and formed to a prescribed shape by a pressing machine. The molded article is baked under the condition of 1,800 deg.X5hr in the nitrogen environment.
