<p>PURPOSE:To easily display the current position of a moving body with high accuracy even when the scale of a map changes by converting the current position of the moving body on two-dimensional coordinate into a position on longitude-latitude coordinates while regarding a reference point of a mesh on the map as a known position. CONSTITUTION:A map information storage medium 5 is stored with about 11 kinds of maps drawn to different scales for each district. At the same time, reference points of meshes formed of longitude and latitude lines of each map are regarded as know points and registered on the medium 5 together with corresponding map information. Specific maps are read out of the medium 5 selectively under the control of a signal processor 3 and displayed 7 and at the same time, the longitude and latitude values of the reference point of the mesh of the map are read out and recognized by the processor 3. This processor 3 converts the found position on two-dimentional coordinates into a position on lontigude-latitude coordinates and find the position on the map from the position of the reference point of the mesh, thereby plotting it as the current position.</p> |
