<p>A rolling stand 1 has two working rolls 2, 3 and at least one back-up roll 4 for supporting a working roll 2. The back-up roll 4 is a deflection-adjusting roll having a roll shell which is rotatable about a non-rotatable carrier and which is supported on the carrier by means of hydrostatic bearing elements which are arranged in juxtaposed relationship in the axial direction of the roll and whose support force is controllable individually or in groups. Mechanical regulation of strip flatness is effected by controlling the support forces acting on the roll shell of the back-up rolls, and thermal flatness regulation is effected by cooling the working and back-up rolls 2, 3, 4 over their widths.
