PURPOSE:To execute simply and surely the forming of a test route by allowing a terminal station to be tested to select a desired terminal station based on an identifier given at each terminal station. CONSTITUTION:In forming a line test route between an access port 1 and a terminal station 11, an identifier of a transmission/reception port 5 is sent from a measuring instrument 14 at first as a fixed pattern on a line and the port 1 turns on an automatic loop back control bit. Branch points 2-4 pass the identifier and the control bit. In detecting the control bit, transmission/reception ports 5-7 read a pattern on the line and compare the contents of identifier storage areas 8-10. The coincident port 5 passes the control bit and dissident ports 6, 7 reset the control bit. Thus, the control bit reaches the terminal station 11 only, the control bit is returned by the terminal station 11 and the line test route between the port 1 and the terminal station 11 is formed.
