PURPOSE:To prevent a film defect due to dust or seeding in a baking oven, in manufacturing a painted steel plate by a roll coater, by applying painting to the under surface of the steel plate under a specific range of tension and passing the painted steel plate through the baking oven. CONSTITUTION:In order to keep the contact pressure of a painted steel plate and coater rolls 1, 4 constant, for example, the tension of a deflector roll 3 and a bridle roll 8 to 0.5-3.0kg/mm<2>. In this state, the paint from a paint pan 5 is applied to the lower surface of the steel plate 6 by an under surface coater roll 4 to form a top coat layer and service coat is subsequently applied to the upper surface of the steel plate 6. Because the steel plate 6 after painting is passed through a baking oven 7 in such a state that the top coat surface is turned down, the adhesion of dust or seeding falling from the wall of the oven to the surface of the paint film is prevented and a high quality painted steel plate having excellent film appearance is obtained.
