PURPOSE:To be able to make space heating and cooling efficiently by a method wherein the upper and lower gateways are installed at the upper and lower parts of an upright duct respectively and the suction hole and blow-off hole of an air conditioner main body are connected in such a condition as to be able to switch over to a primary and a secondary wind passages connected to the two gateways. CONSTITUTION:At the time of space cooling a damper 17 lies down to close a suction hole 11 and a damper 18 rises up to close a blow-off hole 10. Therefore, a blow-off chamber 9b is connected to a wind passage 4 to blow off cool air from the upper gateway 1 of an upright duct 3. A suction chamber 9c is connected to a wind passage 5 to suck in the air in a living room 20 from the lower gateway 2. At the time of space heating the damper 17 rises up to close the hole 10 and the damper 18 lies down to close the hole 11. Therefore, hot air is blown off from the gateway 2 to suck in the air in the living room from the upper blow-off hole. As the cool air is blown off from the upper gateway 1 and the hot air is blown off from the gateway 2 in this manner, efficient space heating and cooling are carried out by utilizing the temp. distribution in the living room 20.
