PURPOSE:To prevent a self-extinguishing element from thermally damaging by detecting the temperature of a case of the element or a thermal conductor for attached the case, and increasing or decreasing the switching pulse of the element when it is out of a predetermined temperature range. CONSTITUTION:The temperature of a case of a self-extinguishing element 1 or a thermal conductor for attaching the case is detected by a thermal sensor 2. The output of the sensor 2 is converted by a detector 5 to a digital amount, input to a discriminator 6 to compare it with a set condition, and further input through a D/A converter 7 and a V/f converter 8 to an address generator 9. A carrier generator 10 is controlled by the output of the generator 9 to increase or decrease the number of switching pulses within a predetermined time supplied to the element 1 when the temperature detected by the sensor 2 is out of a predetermined temperature range.
