CARRIER FOR SUPPORTING EXHAUST GAS PURIFYING CATALYST

PURPOSE:To enhance durability and to uniformly support a catalytic substance, by providing a dense chromium oxide type ceramic layer to the surface of a heat resistant plate shaped metal base, and applying and bonding a porous ceramic layer of the same system thereto to form a carrier. CONSTITUTION:A dense chromium oxide type ceramic layer 2 is formed to the surface of a heat resistant plate-shaped metal base comprising SUS 302B or SUS 304 stainless steel and a relatively porous ceramic layer 3 of the same system as the layer 2 is further applied and bonded to said layer to constitute carrier for supporting an exhaust gas purifying catalyst. The void ratio of the dense chromium oxide type ceramic layer 2 is set to 15% or less while that of the porous ceramic layer is pref. set to 20-30%. The catalyst carrier obtained has heat resistance and durability and facilitates the supporting of a catalytic substance in a uniformly distributed state and is markedly increased in a catalyst supporting area.
