PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin excellent in compatibility with another resin or rubber and heat resistance, by performing an addition reaction of a substituted phenol with an aldehyde, adding a specified amount of 5- methylresorcinol to the system and condensing it. CONSTITUTION:An addition reaction of 1mol of a substituted phenol (A) (e.g., p-phenylphenol) with 1-3mol of an aldehyde (B) (e.g., formalin) is performed at 50-100 deg.C for 1-10hr in the presence of 0.01-0.5mol of a basic catalyst (e.g., NaOH) to obtain an adduct. This adduct is mixed with 0.1-30wt%, based on component A, 5-methylresorcinol and the mixture is reacted at 100-150 deg.C for 1-5hr to obtain the titled resin. This resin is mixed with another resin (e.g., petroleum resin), a rubber (e.g., polychloroprene) and an additive (e.g., ZnO) to obtain an adhesive composition.
