According to the invention, the gaseous current containing NO 3 is divided 4 at its exit from the reactor 2, into two parallel flows 5 and 6; one of the partial flows 6 is sent into a heat exchanger 7 using NOx gas and the other partial flow 5 is sent into a heat exchanger 8 using H2O, and the partial flows 5 and 6 are combined 9, 10 at their exit from the heat exchangers 7 and 8. It is thus possible to obtain a more economical cooling of a hot gaseous flow containing NO 3 in a steam-cooled reactor 2 and in heat exchangers connected downstream for preheating gas containing NOx 7 and for producing steam or hot water 8. <IMAGE>
