PURPOSE:To form a magnetic recording medium having excellent running stability and durability by providing an intermediate film contg. a silane base or titanium base coupling agent on the surface part of a thin ferromagnetic metallic film provided on a nonmagnetic substrate and further laminating a polymerized film of a p-xylylene or the deriv. thereof as a protective layer thereon. CONSTITUTION:This magnetic recording medium is constituted by providing the intermediate film 3 contg. the silane base or titanium base coupling agent on the surface of the thin ferromagnetic metallic film provided on the nonmagnetic substrate 1 and further laminating the polymerized film of the p-xylene or the deriv. thereof as the protective film 4 thereon. The nonmagnetic substrate 1 which can be used includes a polyamide, etc. The thin metallic film constituted of at least two kinds of elements selected from Co, Cr and Ni is, above all, preferable as the ferromagnetic material to form the thin ferromagnetic metallic film 2 as said film has high magnetic anisotropic energy and corrosion resistance. The coupling agent used for the intermediate film 3 contains a vinyl trichlorosilane, etc. in the case of the silane coupling agent and contains an isopropyl triisostearoyl titanate, etc. in the case of the titanium coupling agent.
