PURPOSE:In the recovery of amino acids through the cation-exchange resin process, an aqueous solution of urea and ion-dissociating substance is used as an eluent for the adsorbed amino acids to obtain amino acids of high purity without clotting of the resin column with deposited crystals. CONSTITUTION:An amino acid solution containing impurities, which are prepared by the fermentation process, synthesis of extraction, is brought into contact with a cation-exchange resin to effect the selective adsorption of amino acids on the resin. Then, an aqueous solution of urea and an ion-dissociating substance is used as an eluent to recover the amino acids from the amino acid solution by a known method. EFFECT:The addition of urea to the conventional eluent can save the amount of the eluent alkali used and can save the amount of the acid for recovery of amino acids by neutralization crystallization. The mother liquor after crystallization can be recycled or utilized as nitrogen-source fertilizer, because it contains urea.
