NEW MATERIAL:Monoazo compds. of formula I, wherein D is (substd.) phenyl; R is a (substd.) alkyl; A is (substd.) phenylene; Z is a group of formula II or III (wherein Y is a group which can be removed by an alkali); X is a lower alkoxy, (substd.) phenoxy or a group of formula IV, wherein R1 and R2 are each H, a (substd.) lower alkyl, (substd.) phenyl, (substd.) naphthyl or (substd.) benzyl. EXAMPLE:A compd. of formula V. USE:Monoazo dyes which are reactive with fibers, dye or print materials having hydroxyl groups (e.g., cellulosic fiber materials) and materials having carbonamide groups (e.g., polyamide fiber) red and are excellent in solubility and build-up properties. PREPARATION:A compd. of formula VI and a compd. of formula VII are condensed with cyanuric chloride or fluoride in an aq. medium, while primarily adjusting the pH to 1-10 at -10-50 deg.C and secondarily the pH to 2-9 at 0-70 deg.C. The product is then condensed with a compd. of formula H-X in an aq. medium, while adjusting the pH to 2-9 at 50-100 deg.C.
