PURPOSE:To industrially and readily obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for medicines and agricultural chemicals, etc., additives, etc., in good yield, by reacting an O-silylcyanohydrin with a hydroperoxide in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An O-silylcyanohydrin expressed by formula I [R1 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl or (substituted) phenyl; R3-R5 are alkyl or phenyl], e.g. O-(trimethylsilyl)oxy-benzyl cyanide, etc., is reacted with a hydroperoxide expressed by the formula R2OOH (R2 is alkyl), e.g. tert-butyl hydroperoxide, etc., in the presence f a ruthenium or rhodium catalyst, normally in an inert solvent, e.g. benzene, etc., preferably at -10-+80 deg.C to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula II. |
