PURPOSE:To speed up processing by monitoring an input string, and at the detection of an input pattern specified by a user, regarding the input pattern as an edition requesting command to execute input edition. CONSTITUTION:When a user specifies an edition mode, an input from a character terminal T1 is inputted to a pattern detector P1. When the input coincides with a one-character erasing pattern in the pattern detector P1, the pattern detector P1 sends a one-character canceling instruction to an input storing/ editing device R1, and when the input coincides with a one-word erasing pattern, the pattern detector P1 sends a one-word canceling instruction to the input storing/editing device P1. When the input coincides with a one-line erasing pattern, the pattern detector P1 sends a one-line canceling instruction to the input storing/editing device R1, and at the coincidence of the input with a one- line end pattern, the pattern detector P1 sends a one-line end instruction to the device R1. When the input does not coincide with any pattern, an input instruction is sent.
