PURPOSE:To improve the work efficiency of a user of a shared device by displaying status information of the shared device on a work station and changing forcibly the state of the shared device in accordance with an indication from the work station. CONSTITUTION:In case one of work stations 10-13 selects a shared device 30 or 31 for printing, a monitor control part 40 of the selected shared device is started. The monitor control part 40 discriminates the state of a main body part 41 and returns a status display message to the work station of the selecting source, and the work station displays this message on a display device. If a key or the like to be set for operation of the main body part 41 is not set, the monitor control part 40 sets forcibly the main body part 41 to the operatable state by the instruction of status setting from the work station.
