PURPOSE:To easily and simply perform operation for setting a veering point accurately at prescribed distance from the shore by displaying the distance from a specific ground target on the shoreline in real time. CONSTITUTION:A distance arithmetic part 10 receives the outputs of X and Y counters 8a and 8b and the outputs of latch circuits 9a and 9b. Further, the movement distance of a cursor mark to the set ground reference target is calculated successively on the basis of position data on the ground reference target obtained from the circuits 9a and 9b and the cursor position outputted by the counters 8a and 8b according to the cursor movement. Further, the calculated distance is supplied to a display device to display the movement distance on its CRT screen at a specific position. Consequently, the cursor is moved to the ground target such as a cape displayed on a chart to perform setting operation, and then the ground target is detected as a reference position; when the cursor is moved from the ground target set as the reference position to a veering point set position, the cursor movement distance from the reference position is calculated and displayed successively.
