In an electronic page printer, the received information is prepared before output in an electronic page memory. This may involve, for instance, different fonts or graphics. If the graphics are very complicated, the processing time can be considerable. No simple check on the previous state of the page to be printed is possible from outside. The invention is based on the object of creating a data processing device with which a check on the state of preparation in the page memory is possible at any arbitrary moment. This object is achieved by a manually activated command input device in the keyboard, by which control commands can be triggered in a control device to read the instantaneous memory content of a page memory, and to print this instantaneous memory content, via an electronic page printer, on a recording medium. This interrupts the preparation of the data in the page memory, which is resumed by the control device after every printing event. By simple means, the invention makes it possible to check the state of preparation in the page memory at any arbitrary moment.
