The press section comprises a pair of nip rolls(20,21) between which a web(w) is self-transported, pref. standwiched between two felts(13,16), the nip rolls(20,21) being followed by an extended press nip(N2) through which at least one felt (25) transports the web(W6). The extended press nip(N2) is defined between a first surface pref. of a press roll(30), and a confronting shoe(31) with a curved leading edge(33). Over the shoe(31) runs an endless impervious belt(39), and lubricant fluid is fed between the belt(39) and the shoe(31) leading edge, to form a dynamic film pressing layer between the belt and the shoe.
