Known steering wheel locks block rotation of the steering wheel column by means of a blocking bolt, which engages in a blocking sleeve which is rigidly and non-rotatably mounted on the steering wheel column. Twisting the steering wheel with great force can cause the blocking bolt to be cut in two, making it possible to steer the vehicle. The invention is intended to make this impossible. The blocking sleeve is rotatably arranged on the steering column and is connected to the latter in the direction of rotation by means of a clamping force which can be set using clamping means, on the one hand makes it impossible to cut the blocking bolt in two by turning the steering wheel with great force, and on the other hand makes it impossible to steer the vehicle during travel, by virtue of the fact that it is extremely difficult to turn the steering column. The steering wheel lock can be used and installed in all motor vehicles instead of the steering wheel lock which has been conventional to date.
