PURPOSE:To improve the machinability of free-cutting oxygen-free copper without deteriorating the hot workability or electric conductivity by using specified amounts of Te and Zr as essential components in the copper. CONSTITUTION:The composition of oxygen-free copper is composed of, by weight, 0.01-1.0% Te, 0.01-0.3% Zr and the balance essentially Cu. The composition may further contain 0.01-0.2% in total of Pb and/or Bi and 0.001-0.2% in total of one or more among Ni, Sn, Sb, B and In. By the composition, the machinability can be improved without causing deterioration in the characteristics such as the electric conductivity, heat conductivity and hot workability.
