Furans of formula (I), their alkali, alkaline earth or amine salts when R1=H are new: R=5-methyl-2-furyl; 2,5-dimethyl-3-furyl or 3-furyl; R1=H or 1-18C linear, branched or cyclic, satd. or unsatd., alkyl. Pref. the double bond has the E geometry.
