PURPOSE:To obtain steering force in accordance with various running conditions, by controlling a steering force control means in accordance with a running index which is obtained in view of a running index indicating the condition of a road which is a mountain path, a street path or the like, and a running index indicating whether it is a sporty drive condition or a mild drive condition. CONSTITUTION:There is provide a first computing means 2 for computing a first running index in accordance with the condition of a road obtained from an output signal from a steering angle detecting means 1 for detecting a steering angle. Further, there is provided a second computing means 4 for computing a second running index 2 in accordance with a drive condition by the driver, such as a sporty drive condition, a mild drive condition or the like, from an output signal from a vehicle relating information detecting means 3 for detecting a vehicle speed or a running information relating to the vehicle speed. Further, there is provided a third computing means 5 for computing a third running index 3 from the running indexes obtained by the first and second computing means 2, 4. A control current calculating means 6 computes a control current value in accordance with the third running index, and a steering force control means 7 changes the steering force of a power steering device in accordance with the control current value thus calculated.
