PURPOSE:To perform a copying within a rule mark frame without destroying a rule mark image, by providing a deciding means which decides whether a character is a specific control character which is dealt as a space in a print time, or not. CONSTITUTION:In a documentation device, the first and the second deciding means are provided. The first deciding means, when the copying operation of a character string is instructed, decides whether the character at a cursor position is the specific control character which is dealt as the space in the print time, or not. Also, the second deciding means decides whether it is the completion of the copying operation of a designated character string at every designation of the cursor position, and when it is not the completion of the copying, it requests a decision for the character at a new cursor position against the first deciding means. Thereby, the copying, especially within the rule mark frame, can be performed without destroying the rule mark image.
