The mowing machine comprises mowing units (16) having mowing members (4) and at lesst two partly hollow supporting housings. It comprises an at least partly hollow spacer (15) provided between the supporting housing. The mowing members are connected to the supporting housing, capable of rotation about axes of rotation (39) extending vertically. The supporting housings and spacers are interconnected by at least one detachable tensile bar (17) which extends through the cavities. Taken in the normal direction of operative travel (26) of the mowing machine, the tensile bar is located before the axis of rotation of a mowing member.
