PURPOSE:To reduce operation man-hours of an operator, by providing a sheet metal surface model generating device which generates a surface model uniquely from the trihedral drawing of a sheet metal parts. CONSTITUTION:A three-dimensionally constituted CAD device is equipped with a sheet metal surface model generating device 20 other than a graphic display device 11, a position input/command input device 12, a graphic processor 13, and a graphic storage device 16. The generating device 20 inputs the trihedral drawing data of the sheet metal parts stored in the storage device 16, and performs a scan by three-dimensional scanner based on the data, and decides and generates uniquely the shape of a surface model. In such a case, as the three-dimensional scanner, the one having an arm length corresponding to the plate width of the sheet metal parts is used. In this way, the operation man- hours of the operator can be reduced.
