A flexible tube 2, with an internal diameter 4 smaller than the external diameter 3 of a pipe 1, is fitted on the end of the latter by first inserting in the tube 2 rigid rings 5, 6 of internal diameter greater than the diameter 3, spaced apart so that the tube 2 contracts on to the outside of the pipe 1 in the interval between the rings and thus forms a seal. As the pipe 1 is pushed into the expanded tube 2 its end enlarges the tube 2 and forms another seal at 10. The rings 5, 6 are shaped to facilitate their insertion in the tube 2 and the inside of the ring 6 is flared to facilitate the entrance of the pipe 1. The mouth of the pipe 1 may be bevelled at 11 to give a smooth transition between the bores. The end of the pipe 1 may also be externally bevelled. In a modification, Fig. 2, one ring 12 only is used and the outside of the pipe 1 has a gradual bevel 13. |
