NEW MATERIAL:2,5-Bis(4-isocyanatophenyl)-3,4-diphenylthiophene shown by formula I. USE:Useful as a raw material for synthesizing a polyimide resin suitable as an industrial material having high molecular weight, soluble in organic solvents, having improved electrical characteristics and mechanical characteristics. This compound shown by formula I is reacted with a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride under a mild condition by one stage reaction readily to give a polyimide. PREPARATION:Diaminotetraphyenylthiophene shown by formula II is reacted with phosgene or trichloromethyl chloroformate in an organic solvent at 0-200 deg.C to give a compound shown by formula I. The reaction temperature is especially preferably 40-100 deg.C. The amount of phosgene or trichloromethyl chloroformate is preferably 3-10 equivalents based on diami notetraphenylthiophene.
