PURPOSE:To attain the ease of reading of a sentence by outputting originals while left ends of sentences are indented at the transmission/reception in copying the originals described with sentences whose left ends of each line are not arranged. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 1 has a block division function dividing a picture data stored in a RAM 3 at each block in the copy mode and a block left end indenting function indenting the left ends of each block and outputting the result. In selecting the left indenting mode, a line having the shortest white run (white run length) at the left end of one line (one scanning line) is sought among all picture data stored therein. Then a line mixed with white run and black run (black run length) is detected in one line. Further, after the line mixed with the white run and the black run is detected, all white lines are detected. The consecutive white/black lines are regarded as the 1st block and the shortest white run at the left end is detected in each line of the block. Thus, all picture data stored in the RAM 3 are divided into blocks and the left indenting processing is applied to each block.
