PURPOSE:To make an automatic transaxle compact to thereby improve the mountability to a vehicle, and make it possible to mount a forward four-speed automatic transmission to a compact vehicle, by arranging an output shaft on an outer circumference of an input shaft between a fluidic transmitting device and a planetary gear transmission mechanism, and taking off a torque from the output shaft to a differential mechanism. CONSTITUTION:An output shaft 30 is provided on an outer circumference of an input shaft 26 between a fluidic transmitting device and a planetary gear transmission mechanism 14. A torque from the output shaft 30 is transmitted through an output gear 32 to an idler gear 34 in a position relatively near a differential mechanism 16. Accordingly, the axial length of the idler gear 34 and a reduction gear may be greatly reduced to thereby make an automatic transaxle greatly compact as a whole. Accordingly, a forward four-speed with overdrive may be obtained. With this arrangement, the mountability of the automatic transaxle to a vehicle may be greatly improved, and a forward four- speed with overdrive automatic transmission may be mounted to even a compact vehicle.
