PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of creases on a passing matter of soft quality by providing for a curved roller shaft a roller whose outside circumference becomes longer toward the end side parts. CONSTITUTION:A roll R1 belonging to a rectilinear type comprises a curved roller shaft 1a and a roller 2a. The roller 2a is provided rotatably in relation to the roller shaft 1a through a self aligning bearing 3. Also, the outline of the roller 2a is such that its outside circumference is gradually elongated toward the end part from the center part in the longitudinal direction of the roller, and also in the case of the roll R1 being provided in a state wherein the curved roller shaft 1a forms an angle curve, the upper part 21 of the outside circumference of the roller is in a state to form a straight line alone the longitudinal direction of the roller. And a passing matter S is made to run through in a horizontal or rectilinear attitude by taking advantage of the part 21 where the line of the outside circumference of the roller 2a becomes a straight line.
