PURPOSE:To improve the dispersibility of the ultrafine magnetic particles of magnetic powder in a magnetic coated film by contg. a copolymer consisting of respective units of a vinyl chloride, vinyl ester of carboxylic acid, and basic monomer and the magnetic powder. CONSTITUTION:The copolymer consisting of the respective units of 50-95wt% vinyl chloride, 0.1-45wt% vinyl ester of carboxylic acid, and 0.01-10wt% basic monomer and the magnetic powder are incorporated into the magnetic coated film. This magnetic recording medium is formed by mixing 200-600pts. wt. magnetic powder, 600-1,200pts.wt. org. solvent and 5-50pts.wt. thermosetting resin with 100pts.wt copolymer. The magnetic powder widely includes from general powders up to the ultrafine particles of 30m<2>/g BET of Fe powder and Co powder in addition to gamma-Fe2O3 powder, Fe3O4 powder, Co-contg. gamma-Fe2O3 powder, and Co-contg. Fe3O4 powder. The magnetic recording medium having the excellent dispersibility of the ultrafine particles of the magnetic powder in the magnetic layer is thus obtd.
